The building, which was a three-story structure with a basement, was in the process of being torn down, and had just a few walls still standing and a large pile of rubble in the center on Saturday. Workers from Red Rock CDT, of Hamilton, which is contracted with the city to take down the structure, began demolition work a few weeks ago and were working on site when the fire began. The owner of the Red Rock was operating a piece of equipment in the middle of the structure when the fire ignited in the center of the remaining building. Although it has been ruled an accident, the precise cause has not been determined.
Fire broke out Saturday evening in the remnants of the Leeper Hotel in Chillicothe. Yesterday, fire officials said the blaze looks to be accidental in nature.
