Cape Air is asking for a four-year contract extension at the Kirksville Regional Airport. Cape Air and city officials met on Thursday. Cape Air was the only commercial airline to submit a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Essential Air Services Program. Cape Air wants a $1.6 million annual subsidy. The current contract included a $1.4 million annual subsidy, and the increase is reportedly because of higher fuel costs. Airport officials support the four-year contract proposal. Cape Air plans to change its flight schedule, by adding one of three daily flights from Saturday to Sunday… so if you’re trying to come back to Kirksville at the end of a weekend, it’ll be easier.
