Kirksville School Board Approves Random Drug Tests for Students

At a special meeting this afternoon, the Kirksville R-III School Board unanimously approved a Random Student Drug Testing Policy and Procedure. Beginning this fall, the district will conduct random drug testing for students in grades 7 through 12 as a condition of participating in activities covered by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Those activities include football, boys and girls basketball, volleyball, wrestling, baseball, cheerleading, band and speech and debate teams. If a student tests positive, they’ll be suspended from their activity. Their school grades will not be affected. Students will remain in the testing pool even during off-seasons, still subject to random testing. More drug testing information will be made available on the school district’s website or by calling the activities director’s office.
