The statue, called The Sister of Liberty, was stolen sometime over the weekend from Indian Foothills Park, which was renovated less than a month ago. The statue was placed at the park entrance by local Boy Scout troops in 1951. It was refurbished last year, after the community raised the necessary money. Parks Department Director Jeff Stubblefield estimates it would have taken four to six people to lift the statue off its pedestal. Stubblefield has received more than $1,100 in pledges for a reward fund and he expects that amount to increase. Mayor Mark Gooden says an anonymous donor has offered $5,000.
Police in Marshall say someone stole a treasured miniature replica of the Statue of Liberty from a city park.
