The artificial surface at Kirksville’s Spainhower Field should be complete in plenty of time for the first high school football game next Friday night, may miss the contractual deadline at the end of the business day today. The light rain early this week delayed workers getting started on the last step of the project, spreading the rubber in-fill. That process started Wednesday and is supposed to last 3-4 days. If the St. Louis-based company Byrne and Jones misses that mark, it will be assessed a $500 per day penalty until the project is complete. The bleacher work at the stadium is done, and the minor work left will not get in the way of a few team workouts on the turf next week.
