Council to Dedcide on Siren Purhcase

Kirksville City Council members will take the next step in the community’s warning siren replacement program at their meeting tonight.

The council will be asked to okay the purchase of two sirens, one to be placed at the Kirksville R3 practice soccer field, replacing the siren at Brashear Park; the other at PC Mills replacing the siren behind Barnett Hall on South Franklin. They will be of the conventional rotating type, and will not make voice announcements like the sirens installed most recently are capable of. Those sirens were installed in 2010 and 2011 at Rotary Park and at North Park. A previous council agreed to replace sirens at the pace of one a year. The pair of sirens to be approved tonight would be bought one at a time, to split expenses between the 2012 and 2013 budget years.
