Kirksville Murder was Gory

Police have released more details regarding the man arrested for killing another person and setting fire to a car and apartment to hide the evidence.

Police say 49-year old Paul Potter of Kirksville killed a person identified in court records only as John Doe and dismembered his victim’s body late Sunday night. Police responding to a car fire reported Sunday night talked with witnesses who watched Potter leaving the car that was on fire. While investigating, officials learned of another disturbance near Nos. 169 and 170 Valley Forge Drive. Both units were on fire, and officers saw Potter throw two objects toward witnesses. The objects were later determined to be human arms. Potter was taken into custody. Officers observed a dismembered body in one of the apartments. The victim had also sustained multiple other injuries, consistent with knife wounds. Potter is being held in the Adair County Jail on a $1 million bond.
