Council Accepts MoDOT Grants, Approves Airport Work

Kirksville City Council members have given the green light to accepting money from MoDOT to help with Phase 2 of the Franklin Street project. As we reported yesterday, the action allows the city to tap into a $415-thousand grant to fund a bit over half the costs of the next phase of work, on Franklin between Normal and Patterson.

The council also went on to approve two items involving renovations at the Kirksville Regional Airport. The first was an application for a grant from MoDOT’s Aviation Section for design and construction of the airport’s entrance road overlay and the installation of security lighting. The grant would allow for ninety-percent of the construction costs to be refunded. Construction is expected to start in April. The council then approved the bid from W.L. Miller for the entrance overlay and lighting construction. Their bid was just under two-hundred and fifty-thousand dollars.
