City Election Costs More Than Budgeted

The recent city election in Kirksville cost more than the council budgeted, so council members will be asked to formally approve the needed budget change tonight. The city’s budget for the election was $6,500. It actually ended up costing nearly $17,000 according to election officials. Their estimates for the election cost made in March were off, too, and the city had to write a check for about 23-thousand dollars before the election was held. When you reach the bottom line, the city will be getting some money back, and the budget will show another $10-thousand spent on the election above the original amount.
