Decision on Water Rebates Tonight

Those who have seen huge water bills following the installation of the city of Kirksvilles’ new meters may get a reprieve, in action set before the city council tonight. City staff are recommending they be given the flexibility to adjust bills in the case where differences between the old remote meters and the mechanical meters they were attached to inside the home were substantial. It wouldn’t apply to those informed months ago they had a defective remote meter and needed to notify the city what the accurate reading on the indoor meter showed. Original estimates that about 2-percent of water users would be in the group that had consistently been under billed for the water they’d used due to the problems with the remote meters. The real numbers are running closer to 6-percent.
