Reed Loses Appeal

A Kirksville man has lost his appeal on the sentence he received for shooting at two local police officers. Jerod Reed has been an inmate since March. Yesterday he lost his appeal, andwas told by judges he will have to serve the sentences, which totaled 34 years but were to be served at the same time, making him eligible for parole in about a decade.

Reed’s lawyers claimed in the appeal he could knot have known the men he shot were police officers because they were in plain clothes. Reed also said he couldn’t cause serious injury to two police officers with a gun that only had one bullet. But the courts said Reed should have known they were cops. One had his badge displayed and the other had had previous contatct with Reed on another matter in his job as an officer.
