State Tax Cut Could Impact R-3 Budget

If the Missouri Legislature proceeds with a possible veto override of a state tax cut bill, Kirksville school administrators are warning it would lead to a grim financial future here. Superintendent Patrick Williams says if the measure, which includes various income and corporate tax cuts, is implemented over Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto, it would mean a cut of about $2.3 million from the district’s state funding. But if there’s a good side to be had, it’s that the district is in fine shape right now. The district’s regular budget revision yesterday showed financials appear to be on solid footing. A buffer is available to help lessen the impact of needed cuts because of such a shortfall.
