The ordinance would make if illegal of discrimination in employment and housing against someone because of their sexual orientation. Kirkwood and Columbia have similar ordinances, as do cities like St Louis and Kansas City and that’s the law statewide in Illinois. According to proponents of the ordinance current Missouri law technically would allow for someone to be fired for being gay, or for even being straight, for that matter, and supporters say everyone should be secure in their homes and jobs without fear of being fired or evicted because of their orientation. It’s a busy time for summer roadwork in northeast Missouri.
