Human Righs Ordinance on Agenda; Council Meeting Moved

The anticipated large crowd for tonight’s Kirksville City Council meeting has caused officials to change the location. The Human Rights ordinance is scheduled to be discussed again this evening, and to make room for the expected overflow crowd, the council meeting will be held at the Gutensohn Clinic, 800 West Jefferson Street.

For several months the City Council has been discussing whether or not to move forward with the expansion of the City¡¦s Fair Housing Ordinance. The expansion of this ordinance would extend protection at the local level to employment, public accommodations and include gender identity as a protected class. The ordinance has gone through multiple drafts, and has failed one previous vote.
