Registered Sex Offender Going to Prison

A registered sex offender is going to prison…

Back in May an investigation was started by the Kirksville Regional Computer Crimes Unit. 38-year-old David Colyer of Kirksville was identified as using social media profiles that were not registered with law enforcement (which is a legal condition for all registered sex offenders). During the course of the investigation the KRCCU used an undercover persona of a 13 year old girl to make contact with Colyer through the social media websites. Colyer sent several sexually graphic messages to the subject he believed was 13 years old over the next week, and in June he arranged to meet the girl at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville. Instead, Coyler was met by the KRCCU and the Kirksville Police Department and placed under arrest. This week, Coyler plead guilty to attempted enticement of a child, and was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
