Man Who Attempted New Cambria Bank Robbery in Custody

The man who tried to enter a bank in New Cambria with a gun last week is in custody.

50 year old Ronald Elam, of New Cambria, was arrested in Chariton County Thursday afternoon. Authorities say Elam was stopped while driving on Highway 24 near Salisbury and he was taken into custody without incident. He had been sought by authorities since last Tuesday afternoon, when he allegedly attempted to enter the Bank of New Cambria with a short-barreled rifle. He wasn’t able to get inside because alert employees saw him coming and locked the doors. Elam was recenly released from prison where he served a term for stealing. He is currently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, with additional charges pending. His bond is set at $50,000 dollars cash-only.
