Kirksville businesses will be paying more for licenses.
This week the City Council approved an ordinance that will increase the business license fees. For a service business, the business license fee will be $40, while a retail business will have a license fee of $25. Previously, the business license fees were $10 for both. The investigative fee for a new business license will also increase from $10 to $25 to cover additional paperwork and inspections. It costs the city about $41 per business to keep them in compliance with all of the laws. The license increase was passed to help the city catch up to some of those fees.
