New Police Training

New training may be coming for Missouri police officers.

It’s a proposed rule change that would require officers to have yearly refresher training in recognizing racial bias and how to deal with people who have mental health issues. Gov. Jay Nixon had directed the state’s law enforcement commission to revamp training. He said the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson sparked a national debate on police training and gave Missouri a chance to lead in making improvements. The rule changes must pass through a review period and get public comment before they can take effect.
