Kirksville R-III Looks to Outsource Service for Substitutes

The Kirksville R-III School District is pursuing a substitute teacher replacement service.

The subject was discussed this week during the School Board meeting. The Assistant Superintendent says the district recently met with Kelly’s Services, a staffing company that could find a substitute for a classroom when needed. And the service would still allow for teachers to be able to pick their favorite substitutes for their classes. School Board members asked staff to look into the service as part of compliance with the Affordable Care Act which requires large employers to provide health insurance to employees that work more than 30 hours a week or 130 hours a month. Using the staffing service allows the district to outsource their substitutes so they work and get paid by a different employer, on their payroll.
