Independence Increases Smoking Age

More restrictions on smoking…another Missouri city says you have to be older — to light-up.

Now it’s Independence…the third city to decide that you have to be at least 21 to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products in the city. The Independence City Council passed an ordinance raising the legal smoking age from 18 to 21. Both Kansas, Missouri and Kansas have made the same decision. Some argue it will just drive 18 year old smokers to other cities to buy tobacco. The ban applies to all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.
