MoDOT – Drivers Can Expect Snow Covered Roads

Snow has moved into the northeast region, so MoDOT crews are out full force working to clear the roads during this storm. MoDOT Northeast District Engineer says they discourage any unnecessary travel during this time, and if you must be out, they are advised to take it slow when traveling and allow additional time for their travels.

Crews will plow the most heavily traveled routes until they are clear. Lower volume routes are plowed to passible and treated at critical areas such as hills, curves and bridges. While crews will be working around the clock, the bitterly cold temperatures make it difficult to plow snow or treat roadways with salt and other snow-melting materials. Even in areas where crews have made progress, it is possible you may encounter slick spots where refreeze has occurred or blowing snow has covered an already-plowed roadway.

Before heading out, check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map, located at www.modot.org/ for real-time views of road conditions for Missouri’s interstates and major highways. MoDOT also uses Facebook and Twitter to share information.

Due to inclement weather, Ralls County Route H has been closed to traffic. Motorists will need to use alternate routes until the road is re-opened.
