Kirksville Voters to Decide on Sales Tax for Parking Lot

Kirksville voters will decide if a sales tax will pay for a parking lot.

During a special meeting, the Kirksville City Council decided to change a question that will be placed on the ballot for the April 2016 Municipal Election that will ask you to approve use of excess 2016 funds from the existing economic development sales tax, to pay for the construction of the new tractor-trailer parking lot to be built next to the Kraft Heinz plant. If passed, a one-time contribution of $600,000 will be used toward the new parking lot at Adair Foods. The city applied for a block grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development to help cover the costs for the parking lot project, but they haven’t heard back yet if the funds will come through, so the city is now making plans to get the work done without it.
