Suicidal Driver Causes Highway Closure

A suicidal driver in Caldwell County caused the closure of Highway 36 for about six hours yesterday morning.

The incident happened near Hamilton just after 4 in the morning after a sheriff’s deputy pulled over a pickup truck for speeding. The driver then displayed a weapon and threatened suicide. Highway 36 was closed in both directions as authorities negotiated with the driver. At around 10:15 a.m, the driver agreed to put down his weapon and come out of his vehicle. The man was taken into custody without further incident.
