Grant Money Coming for Kraft Heinz Parking Lot

The city is getting some help to pay for road and parking improvements for the Kraft Heinz expansion project.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development says it will commit a little more than $800,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding for the infrastructure improvements. The initial grant request from the city of Kirksville was $1.4 million for the project – which means the city needs to come up with another $700,000 to cover costs. During a special meeting, the Kirksville City Council decided to change a question that will be placed on the ballot for the April 2016 Municipal Election that will ask you to approve use of excess 2016 funds from the existing economic development sales tax. If passed, a one-time contribution of $600,000 will be used toward the new parking lot at Adair Foods.
