Kirksville City Council Approves New Hotel Construction

The Kirksville City Council has approved plans construction of a new hotel.

The new Holiday Inn Express will be located at 2523 South Franklin Street, at the site of a former Italian Restaurant. The project plans are for a four story hotel with a total of 82 rooms, and a meeting room that accomodates up to 50 people. The project is estimated to cost about $7 million. City Council members approved a tax abatement of 52 percent over a 20-year term. During that time, the developer will provide Payments in Lieu of Taxes to the taxing districts. The Community Improvement District will also create a 1 percent sales tax to help pay for public improvements within the district and the cost of the development. City officials and project developers hope to break ground on the project this April.
