K-REDI to Pitch in for Parking Lot Project

A local parking lot project is getting a boost in funds.

The Kirksville-Regional Economic Development Inc. board has given approval to a $100,000 contribution toward the construction of a parking lot that is part of the Kraft Heinz expansion. The city is short of the amount of money needed for the project after the Missouri Department of Economic Development said it would commit a little more than $800,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding for the infrastructure improvements – about $700,000 less than was requested. To make up the shortfall, the city has proposed asking voters to approve what would amount to $600,000 in funds from the Economic Development Sales Tax, and the city is asking for contributions from organizations like K-REDI.
