MO’s Longest Serving Sheriff Quits

He’s been a sheriff in Missouri 36 years…now, he’s a convicted thief.

Wally George is Missouri’s longest-serving sheriff. He’s 70 year’s old, he became the sheriff in Saline County in 1980. Now George has quit…part of a plea deal for stealing money. George admits that he stole money sent by the state and the feds to reimburse the sheriff’s department for transporting prisoners from other states. He set up a bank account and kept the money. Under the deal, George pleaded guilty to one count of stealing 79,000 and he’s apparently repaid it. He could do a year in prison.
