Transgender Bathroom Debate in Macon County

Controversial bathroom issue coming up in Macon county.

The issue is which bathroom transgender students should be allowed to use at school. For example, should a boy — who dresses and identifies as a girl — be allowed in the girls bathroom. Board member Christian Abernatha says no. He’s drafted a policy that says students use the bathroom or lockerroom based on their sex at birth. Abernatha says he has nothing against transgender students and doesn’t believe they’re perverts. But that other students may be very uncomfortable by their presence in some restrooms. School board will consider the issue later this month, it has caused passionate debates in school districts across the country.
