Missouri hunters harvested nearly 95,000 deer during the opening weekend of firearms deer season. According to information from the Missouri Department of Conservation, hunters harvested 94,977 deer statewide over the last weekend. Howell County led with 2,095 deer checked, followed by Franklin (2,060) and Texas (1,855) counties. Last year hunters checked 96,131 deer during the opening weekend. Local numbers as of Monday morning were: Adair, 882; Knox, 849; Linn, 933; Macon, 1,412; Putnam, 817; Schuyler, 623; Scotland, 918; and Sullivan, 891.Fall firearms season runs through Nov. 21.
