Bridge Work to Cause Reduction in Lanes in Marion County

A bridge rehabilitation project over the South Fabius River Bridge in Marion County got underway this week.
The project is affecting U.S. 61 northbound lanes only approximately 1.2 miles south of Missouri Route 6. According the Missouri Department of Transportation, southbound and northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning July 16 through mid-August, during the construction of the median crossovers at which time a 14-ft width restriction will be in place for all traffic traveling through the work zone. A width restriction will continue to be in effect until the project is completed, which is expected by November 1.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract to a construction company out of of Palmyra, Missouri earlier this year with a total cost of $1,298,000. MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner says the bridge will have a total deck replacement. The existing bridge was built in 1968
