Kirksville Has New Mayor

Kirksville’s new mayor has been chosen. With Jerry Mills resignation going into effect today, Chuck Long will take over his responsibilities. Mills annnouned Friday that he is purchasing property outside the city limits and will no longer be eligible to serve on the City Council. During last night’s City Council meeting, the remaining council members: Phillip Biston, Richard Detweiler and Rick Steele, voted unanimously for Long to serve out the remainder of the current term, which is until April 2019. Long was first elected to the City Council in 2016, and currently serves as the city’s representative on the Planning & Zoning Commission. As for the seat left with Mill’s departure, the City Council last night did not move to appoint a new member, leaving the 5th council seat vacant.
