Guilty Verdict in Adair County Sex Crimes Case

On Thursday, November 29th, 2018, Scott Weyant (36) of Kirksville, Missouri was found guilty of Sodomy First Degree by an Adair County Jury. The jury trial began Wednesday and concluded late in the afternoon on the 29th. The sodomy charge arose after an incident on April 6, last year at a residence in Kirksville. Weyant was charged with forcefully engaging in deviate sexual intercourse with the victim. The case was investigated by officers with, the Kirksville Police Department. During the two day trial jurors heard testimony from the victim, Kirksville police officers, and DNA experts. Mr. Weyant will be back in the Adair County Circuit Court on January 11, 2019 for his sentencing. The crime of Sodomy in the First degree is an unclassified felony that carries the range of punishment of a minimum of five (5) years up to life in prison in the Mlissouri. Department of Corrections, Mr, Weyant will not be eligible for any probation on this case. Adair County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wilson was pleased with the outcome and grateful to be able to assist the victim in pursuing justice. Prosecutor Wilson has not determined what sentence he will be seeking on January 11, but stated that the victim in this case will be involved in that determination. Mr, Weyant will be held at the Adair County Detention Center until his sentencing in January.
