New Chief for KFD Announced

The city of Kirksville has named its new Fire Chief. Jon Cook, currently the deputy fire chief at the Kirksville Fire Department, will be promoted to fire chief effective June 1. In a press release, Cook said he’s honored for the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity. He said KFD s a great department, and with the help of an outstanding staff, he hopes to make it even better. Kirksville Police Chief Jim Hughes has been serving as fire chief also since former Fire Chief Tom Collins, was fired in March 2017. Hughes, who is retiring in the fall, will continue to have a role at KFD until he retires and will oversee the reorganization of the department. The Kirksville City Manager says the announcement of the who the next Police Chief will be is expected to come soon.
