Portion of Building in Edina Collapses

A portion of a vacant building in Edina that had been deemed unsafe, partially collapsed over the weekend. Last week, the sidewalk and a parking area next to the building on East Lafayette Street was roped off closed to the public. On Thursday, a section of South Main Street west of the building was roped off as a precautionary measure. Then on Friday, the southwest corner gave way – spilling bricks and debris onto the street. The city is working with the owner of the building to get the building demolished as soon as possible.
