MSHP Reports on 2019 July Fourth Holiday Statistics

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released its statistics for the Fourth of July holiday counting period, which started last Wednesday and ended late Sunday. In a news release, the patrol said there were 12 traffic deaths over the Independence Day weekend, no boating deaths, and three drownings. Troopers worked 376 traffic crashes, which included 139 injuries and nine of the 12 fatalities. None of the fatal crashes occurred in Northeast Missouri counties. Troopers also made 160 DWI arrests and 110 drug arrests over the holiday weekend. Troopers worked 11 boating crashes, which included five injuries and zero fatalities. Troopers made 12 BWI arrests and 28 drug arrests. During the 2018 counting period, four people were killed and 220 were hurt in 437 traffic crashes, and 40 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. In 2017, there were 26 traffic fatalities.
