Another Case of COVID-19 Attributed to Community Spread

Another case of COVID-19 is attributed to community spread. The Adair County Health Department reports a 31-year-old female working at an area meat processing plant is the latest Adair County resident identified as testing positive for COVID-19. The county has now hit 30 confirmed cases of the virus since January 1, with 18 individuals in isolation, 12 recovered and no deaths.

Not all people infected with COVID-19 have symptoms – that’s something Jim LeBaron, administrator of the Adair County Health Department, wants everyone to keep in mind. He says a week ago there was only one active case of COVID-19 and 12 recoveries. Within eight days, the county has had 17 more confirmed cases. LeBaron cautioned that some people think these infections are only affecting people who work at places like Smithfield Foods or Kraft Heinz, but what’s happening now is that Infected people are spreading the virus to their friends, family and to the community at large. LeBaron said now that people think it’s okay to get out again, they’re putting themselves and others at risk by not taking precautions recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread.
