MoDOT Focus on Pedestrian Safety

MoDOT’s weeklong campaign focusing on pedestrian safety is over, but they hope drivers will continue to make that awareness a top priority. In 2019, 110 pedestrians were killed in Missouri and more than 300 were seriously injured. The top contributing factors to these tragedies were failure to yield, alcohol or drug impairment and distraction/inattention. Speed also plays a critical role in preventing pedestrian fatalities, especially in urban areas. MoDOT says cyclists and pedestrians are urged to make safe choices, and drivers need to be stay alert.
