Adair County Monday COVID Update

The overall COVID-19 case count jumped by 33 since Friday, bringing the total to 3,194 with 109 active cases and 3,057 people who have left isolation. Eight of yesterday’s cases reside at the same address as at least one other confirmed case and one case involves a skilled nursing facility employee. With schools back in session, the higher education sector accounts for three of the new cases and the K-12 schools sector for five. A previously reported 59-year-old female was admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center August 28th. She is currently on a ventilator. NRMC discharged three previously reported admissions.

An 83-year-old male admitted Aug. 21 was discharged Aug. 26. A 59-year-old male admitted Aug. 22 was discharged Aug. 25, and a 78-year-old female admitted Aug. 15 was discharged Aug. 25. A previously reported 85-year-old fully vaccinated male was admitted Aug. 26 and discharged Aug. 28.

Culvert Replacement Will Temporarily Close Shelby County Route M

Weather permitting MoDOT crews will close Shelby County Route M between Missouri Route 15 to Shelby County Route BB for culvert work. The work will be completed between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. Motorists will need to use alternate routes during these times. Boil Advisory

A 48-hour boil advisory was issued yesterday for some in Kirksville, and will last until approximately 5PM tomorrow. The affected area includes North Lincoln Street, between Fairview Drive and North East Street.

New Law for To-Go Cocktails In Effect

A law allowing Missouri restaurants and bars to sell to-go cocktails permanently went into effect on Saturday. The rules were relaxed last year during the pandemic but are now permanent. Under the rules, the containers cannot have an opening for a straw, the clear container must have the restaurant or bars logo or name on it, and the container must be labeled to identify that the drink contains alcohol. Plus, the new law states people must also purchase food with the order.

COVID-19 Updates from Friday

The Adair County Health Department confirmed 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, which brings last week’s seven-day total to 97. There have now been 3,161 cases confirmed. Of those, 113 are active and 3,020 have left isolation. Among Friday’s 24 cases, five are breakthrough infections, seven reside at addresses with at least one other confirmed case, four are in the higher education sector, and one is in the K-12 schools sector. Elsewhere in Northeast Missouri, Sullivan County confirmed two new cases on Friday and they have seventeen active cases. Knox County reported 5 new cases on Friday, amd one additional hospitalization.

Macon Woman Wins $10,000 in MO Vaccine Lottery

A woman from Macon won $10,000 in the Missouri Vaccine Lottery. 64-year-old Janie Parton received her first dose of the Moderna vaccine at the Scotland County Hospital on February 2. She received her second dose at SCH one month later, and recently received her third shot, a booster, also at SCH. Parton, who says she has friends on ventilators, has offered to give half of her winnings to a family member in hopes of enticing them to get vaccinated. Back in July, the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services partnered with the Missouri Lottery to give out the awards of cash or education savings. In total, the state will award 900 individuals throughout the incentive program.

Police Seeking Information About Sex Assault Suspect

The Kirksville Police Department is seeking information about a sex assault suspect. KPD received a complaint of sexual assault on an 11-year-old female. Based on evidence collected during the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued yesterday for Joshua David Pearson for two charges. Pearson, a registered sex offender, is 39 years old, 6’2” tall, 250 lbs, with brown hair, and blue eyes. He was last known to be driving a black GMC Sierra crew-cab with some rust around the passenger side rear wheel well and unknown license. The Kirksville Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in locating Pearson. A photo is posted to KPD’s Facebook page. Police ask that if you see Pearson, not to approach him and contact local law enforcement.

Another COVID-19 Related Death Reported in Knox County

The Knox County Health Department reported anoother COVID-19 related fatality yesterday. It’s that county’s fifth fatality.

In Adair County, another 18 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed yesterday raising the number of current active cases to 114. Among the new cases are eight residing at addresses with at least one other confirmed case, three in the higher education sector, and two in the K-12 schools sector. There are two breakthrough cases affecting fully vaccinated individuals.

Sullivan County added five new COVID-19 cases and currently have 17 active cases. The new positives have been determined to be community related.

Kirksville Man Injured in Crash

A Kirksville man suffered moderate injuries in a crash yesterday in Adair County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Joseph McKim was traveling on Potter Trail, 3/4 miles west ok Kirksville, when his vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and sideswiped a tree. The vehicle began to slide and struck another tree. McKim was transported by amulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Final Summer Off the Square

The Final Summer Off the Square concert is tonight. Truman Steel, the Steel Drum Orchestra from Truman will be performing, sponsored by Kirksville Tourism. Music starts at 7 pm on the Solsitice Artery and Green space between the Sue Ross Arts Center and City Hall.
