Adair County authorities say a manhunt Monday night led to the arrest of one man. The manhunt was prompted when 24-year old Cody Atkins was seen driving off without paying for gas at a convenience store in Brashear. He crashed that vehicle near Business 643 and Highway 11 and left the scene on foot. Authorities say he was already being pursued by a state patrol helicopter, which used thermal-imaging equipment to help officers on the ground locate Atkins. He was found near Laurel Lane and Spencer, south of Kirksville. There he was arrested, and he’s now held without bond due to being wanted for an earlier probation violation. Atkins faces additional charges related to the drive off and subsequent pursuit and crash.
