Some Kirksville taxpayers were on hand last night to learn more about the city’s $37.5 million 2014 budget. The Kirksville City Council held a presentation and public hearing — the first of two opportunities for public comment on the budget — last night. This year’s budget is about $33-million dollars — next year’s is more than 10-percent larger. The reason is a significant growth in capital outlay projects that need to start being paid for next year. Projects include different utilities, sewer improvements, and waste water improvements. The final reading of the 2014 budget is scheduled for Monday, December 16th, at 6pm.
