Maybe you’ve seen the big blue Greyhound buses coming through Kirksville around mid-day — but then again, maybe not. It was some time after service quietly started here that city officials came to learn of it. Since sometime in mid-summer 2013, Greyhound buses stop daily at the Shop N Go gas station located at 2700 N. Baltimore Street. One bus stops at 12:25 p.m. southbound toward Springfield, Mo., while another stops at 1:30 p.m. northbound toward Ottumwa, Iowa. Tickets are available from Kirksville to any U.S. location and must be purchased in advance either online at Greyhound.com or via phone at 1-800-231-2222. They cannot be purchased at the Shop N Go.
City officials said they were alerted to Greyhound’s presence in July, when a student called to ask where they could find the bus depot. The student had already purchased a ticket online and the Greyhound website had listed a non-existent address. The city contacted Greyhound believing the site listed a Kirksville stop in error, only to be told that the bus had in fact began making daily trips through the city. The address was then corrected to reflect the current stop spot.
