A move that is partially intended to reduce the amount of overtime pay police officers in Kirksville arn appears to be taking hold. In January, Kirksville officers switched from patrolling 8 hours a day to a 12-hour daily schedule. The now work seven of every fourteen days, where they worked 10 days in two weeks before. Chief Jim Hughes says the change is something that officers suggested in order to help them reduce fatigue. The schedule is in a week-on, week-off format. Hughes also says the change in shifts will help when recruiting new officers and be seen as a benefit by applicants.
