Monday Power Outage Affects Thousands

The power went out for many yesteday and a critter may have been the culprit..

All of north Kirksville lost power around 5:15. According to Ameren, there were two power outages. One that lasted a few minutes, then another outage that lasted about an hour resulted in 3,000 customers being without service. They believe the first outage occurred due to a voltage change, which triggered an automatic turnoff at the Harrison Street substation in Kirksville. An animal getting too close to something in a substation can cause the system to believe there is a voltage change.
