Blame The Balloon On The Loss Of Electricity

Blame the balloon on the loss of electricity. Karen Johnson has details.

About 200 Ameren Missouri customers lost power on Monday afternoon because of a balloon. According to the utility company, a Mylar balloon got tangled with the power lines near the Ameren Missouri operating center at 715 N. Elson St. Crews had to untangle the balloon and were later able to restore service. The outage occurred around 4 p.m. It was not immediately clear how long the outage lasted. Ameren Missouri says Mylar balloons should be tethered at all times and attached to a weight. When no longer in use, puncture and deflate the balloons before creatively reusing or disposing of them. And, if a balloon or another toy becomes entangled in an overhead power line, do not attempt to retrieve it. Call Ameren Missouri at 800-552-7583 for assistance. I’m Karen Johnson
