Local Residents and Officers to Receive Missouri Police Chiefs Association Awards

Some Kirksville residents and officers will receive awards for their selfless acts. Three Truman State University students who stepped in to help their neighbor in June when her husband attacked her with an axe, will receive the President’s Citizen Award for “assistance given without regard to personal welfare.” Also receiving recognition are Kirksviille Police Department Officer Jason Underwood, and Truman State Department of Public Safety Officer Slater Kelley, will receive the Police Medal of Honor Award for rescuing a toddler who was submerged in Spur Pond. Police Chiefs across the state nominate members of their communities for the awards. The winners will be recognized at the MPCA end-of-year conference today.
