Kirksville police say that chatter in the community about an increase in crime is not accurate.
And to prove it, the department put out statistics showing that the number of serious crimes are staying about the same level as previous years.
The stats show thefts are up slightly over last year. Aggravated assaults are basically the same as last year and burglaries are down a little. You can see all the numbers on the department’s Facebook page.
This is the second time in recent days that the police have responded to comments in the community. Recently, the chief issued a statement saying that rumors about police going soft on certain crimes is not true.
