Margaret Laughlin work to be featured

Kirksville Arts will be exhibiting work by Margaret Laughlin (1909-1968) in the Gaber Gallery at the Sue Ross Arts Center August 5th through September 3rd. Margaret worked in many mediums including acrylic, watercolor, oil, pastel, pen, and charcoal. The exhibit also includes ceramics featuring whimsical animals and people of other cultures. Margaret also created greeting cards which are a part of the exhibit and reflect the time period in which they were created and people of other cultures. The intricately carved woodcuts used to create the cards are on display. Some of the artwork in the exhibit is on loan from private collectors, while some have been in storage for decades and will be on display for the first time in many years. The exhibit was curated by Nikki Hagan a student at Truman. A reception that is open to the public will be held Thursday, August 8th from 5:30 to 7 pm. Nikki will be giving a presentation during the reception on Margaret’s art, her travels and influences. The Sue Ross Arts Center is open Monday through Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 3 pm. There is no cost to visit the exhibit.
