The Adair County Sheriff’s office has received multiple reports of scam calls claiming to be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service. These callers are telling individuals they owe money and are threatening arrest if payment is not made immediately.
Please remember:
• Law enforcement will NOT call you demanding payment.
• We will NOT threaten you with arrest over the phone.
• We will NOT request payment by gift cards, wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or prepaid debit cards.
These calls are fraudulent and designed to create fear and urgency.
If you receive a suspicious call:
✔️ Do not provide personal or financial information.
✔️ Do not send money.
✔️ Hang up immediately.
✔️ Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
