A State House committee defeated a bill that would have made it easier to claim self-defense after shooting someone. If passed, it would have meant that prosecutors could not bring charges against a person who reasonably believes they were acting in self-defense. Police would need to find evidence to the contrary. One prosecutor called it the “Make Murder Legal Act.”
