MO Supreme Court rules in school absences cases

The Missouri Supreme Court has sent the messaage that parents in Missouri CAN be jailed if their kids have too many absences from school. The court upheld the convictions of two parents from Lebanon, Missouri, who were charged with violating the state’s compulsory attendance law. one of the women did a week in jail, and one of the women got two years of probation. The school district required students to attend school at least 90 percent of the time. One of the kids had seven unexcused absences, and the other had nine unexcused absences.
